چکیده

A case of colchicine induced rhabdomyolysis is reported. A 73 year old man with ischaemic heart disease, atrial fibrillation, chronic congestive cardiac failure, and chronic gout presented with diVuse muscle pain. He had been taking an increased dose of colchicine (1.5 mg daily) for an exacerbation of gout for six weeks before the presentation. Investigations confirmed the diagnosis of rhabdomyolysis and discontinuation of colchicine resulted in resolution of clinical and biochemical features of rhabdomyolysis. Although neuromuscular adverse eVects of colchicine are well recognised, rhabdomyolysis is rare and this is only the fourth reported case of colchicine induced rhabdomyolysis in the literature. Severe hypertriglyceridemia and colchicine intoxication following suicide attempt

Colchicine overdose is uncommon but potentially life threatening. Due to its serious adverse systemic effects, overdose must be recognized and treated. We report a case of an 18-year-old female who ingested 18 mg (~0.4 mg/kg) of colchicine in a suicide attempt. The patient's clinical manifestations included abdominal cramps, vomiting, pancytopenia, hypocholesterolemia, and rhabdomyolysis. Two u...

Response to the Letter entitled “The possible effect of colchicine on arteriovenous fistula maturation via neointimal hyperplasia blockage”

We would like to thank Drs. Eroglu and Kocyigit for their comment on possible use of colchicine on arteriovenous fistula maturation via neointimal hyperplasia blockage.1 We used simvastatin because it is a pleiotropic molecule capable of modulating the gene expression of vascular endothelial growth factor-A and matrix metalloproteinase-9. In our studies, simvastatin treated vessels had improved...

Colchicine-Induced Rhabdomyolysis

A case of colchicine-induced rhabdomyolysis is reported. The 72-year-old man was hospitalized because of poor appetite, fatigue, myalgia, and leg weakness, shortly after starting treatment with colchicine for 5 months. Laboratory results revealed serum creatine kinase: 3627 IU/L, creatinine: 2.3 mg/dL, myoglobin: 1160.5 ng/mL (reference range: male: 17.4-105.7 ng/mL, female: 14.3-65.8 ng/mL) an...

Severe Rhabdomyolysis Associated with Simvastatin and Role of Ciprofloxacin and Amlodipine Coadministration

Simvastatin is among the most commonly used prescription medications for cholesterol reduction and the most common statin-related adverse drug reaction is skeletal muscle toxicity. Multiple factors have been shown to influence simvastatin-induced myopathy. In addition to age, gender, ethnicity, genetic predisposition, and dose, drug-drug interactions play a major role. This is particularly true...
